  • Brian's Boat

    Fellow board members!

you might have noticed last week the sad news that Brian has died after an operation.

    R.I.P.

it appears that his wife might need a bit help to sell his boat, which is moored in Sunderland Marina, to get a fair price.

I would hope that we as a group at least could come up with a good evaluation and suggest a place where to sell it. Ideally one of us could turn even more active and help her with presentation etc..

    What I know so far

    Orkney 590
Honda BF 50 4 stroke outboard and a 5HP 4 stroke Honda aux
he seemed to have all possible gear on the boat including Raymarine Dragonfly, another plotter, radio, safety gear etc.
Brian was in the safety business and extremely eager to have everything perfect. There also is a trailer tailor-made for this boat.

Looks a good little boat. can't see a problem moving it. I am sure somebody will have a good idea of it's value. What about the boats insurance? would that give an idea. Condolences to the family.

should be able to get a fairly good guide price from FAFB (find a fishing boat), there will be similar models but the age of the engine is a big significance on small boats, the only problem here is that unless the fees are paid up for the year the mooring costs will escalate to a point where the bill is equal to the value, maybe someone should have a word with his widow in a week or two to offer help and maybe negotiate with the marina under the circumstances and ask for fees to be frozen, can only ask, may be worth her while to have it put on the trailer too, it doesnt take long to fill with rain if there isnt anyone looking after it, I would hate to think she got a call from the marina saying its gone down and another bill to get it up, these are the things you dont realise with boats, poor wife will be distraught enough

had a quick scout around the net and found this boat sold in Amble last year. I assume to Brian. So it should be easy to estimate a price from what he paid then. No price shown on add. Hope this helps.

Orkney boats are always quite easy to sell as they are a well known make and also has the benefit of a honda engine if Brian's wife is a bit unsure I sold my Orkney through Pa Lynch obviously there is a brokers fee but this is offset by getting me a excellent price I had no hassle and they were excellent sold it quickly I have no connections with them just an option for his wife at this difficult time condolences to family

Just did a very quick search on Boatshop and they are going from £11500 to £12500 but it will obviously depend on age, engines etc....

I would be speaking with PA Lynch as he is a dealer and will know what its worth, he may also know someone who is looking for one, Yes he will want a few bob out of the sale or may offer to sell it on brokerage but this will be the best way for her and she will probably get a better price for it without someone knocking her down, when it could be worth more.
