hi all. out the back end of next week on mon amis (?) from craster with a few pals. haven,t been out on a boat (fishin) for over twenty years and was after a wee bit of advice. back then i had an old scaffold tube of a rod and an ancient scarborough reel, and, if i was lucky, i could manage to fish for about an hour on each of the 2 or 3 trips i had out (the rest of the time was spent curled up in the phoetal position after spewin me self inside out) bought a cheapo rod off ebay as i didnt want to spend a lot (just in case i'm never out again) and was wondering, will my old slosh30 suffice? (loaded with 30lb line) secondly, i want the best anti sea vommitin tablets money can buy! any suggestions?..... cheers in advance

I know's there'll be peeps what'll say No...and personally I have a Shimano TLD 15 which IS best suited to wrecking etc
...but I think a slosh 30 would be ok...maybe not one to be used all the time, but it would def cope OK I'm sure
I've got a size 30 Okuma which I think would be a good fall back reel so I see no reason why not - plus it has 6:1 ratio which is super speedy as well as a nice power handle
As to sea sickenss - I've heard anything gingery is a good remedy. There are also things you can do to aid not feeling poorly...NOT DRINKING THE NIGHT BEFORE always try and eat breakfast and take food for during the tripOoh a new vid!

I used to spew like a whale. I use stugeron 15 tablets, touch wood it's worked up to now. Mind you sleep for about 2 days solid after taking them. I've fished out of Craster using my 7000 so don't think you'll have an issue with the slosh. Don't tighten the drag too much & use a piece of wood to wrap round the line to pull out of the snags rather than pressure the reel.Tides & Sea State For North Shields

come out with us man, neebody has been seasick yet at all at all. we've killed a few people, but they were definately not being seasick at the time. there's also the added bonus that we've invented the ultimate nicotine patch in case you need a tab and its raining, just lick the inside walls of the wheelhouse.

Slosh will do fine mate. I have bought ginger tea to drink and take a packet of ginger nuts to munch on while you are out. Stay as far away from the disel fumes as you can and try not to bend over too much. Aldi have some bands in which you put on your wrist's and they are suppose to be good.
My biggest problem is all i think about is WHEN i'm going to be sick so i think a lot of it's a mental thing. I never use to be sea sick but have been the last few times i've been out now. Mind the last time we were out nobody was getting a bite until about 30 seconds after i groundbaited for them and we all pulled up doubles and trebles of cod!!Best shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach

I'm lucky enough not to have been sea sick ( YET ) ,even after a night on the drink but talking to the lads who have bother either Qwells or Sea legs seem to work for them .
As far as your reel goes it'll be fine for a few trips out mate and if you're OK after taking the tablets then invest in something better .
I just thought , I always have a toasted bacon and mushroom sarnie with ketchup before we go out ,so that's my remedy anywayYou can take the lad out of Walker but .......

I use Sturegen. But still spew up on occasion. I refuse to be beaten by a bobbing boat and it does not get in the way of my fishing. As to reels i,ve seen all sorts used. If it strong enough to pull it up from the bottom it will be fine.

ive been out alot of times on boats and i myself often get sea sick
theres no shame in spewing up ive seen the hardiest of boatmen spew before .
the worst thing is thinking about spewing and not wanting to do it
i use kwells myself but ive bought some of the motion sickness bands from aldi for £3 cant be robbed
some times im fine dont need the kwells ect and some times its thinking bloody hell im not sea sick yet sets it off lol
i find iff i think positively ( ill be ok and looks a good day to fish cod a plenty ) dont think about sea sickness im ok
if you head off thinking (ohh god i hope im ok and hope im not going going to be sick ) it starts it off
just my oppinion
i always have a pack of kwells with me and now the bands better to have them than curl up and think of dieing lol

forgot to add the slosh 30 is an uptiding reel as well as casting/shore reel and will be ok on the boat to a point.
you dont want to be targeting rays ect with it but will be great for inshore boat fishing and wrecking
iff you get into the fishing try a better reel then

Try having a good fried breakfast before you go. Fried eggs, fried bacon, a few fried sausages, fried mushrooms and black pudding, fried tomatoes and fried bread. It doesnt stop you being seasick, but with all that grease it doesnt hurt your throat what your spewing all over the place. As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.
