you got/getting a gps for it as well?? without its going to be hard work finding wrecks.

get a chartplotter and local charts and you'll see hundreds of wrecks already marked on the charts fairly close in. on a good calm day, maybe 5 mile off as a limit...... get a vhf for it as well if you've not got one. even if your only planning to go half a mile off

you can do a lot worse than all around the yellow can at the back of st mary's lighthouse, at this time of year and you don't need any gadgetry to find that!

from what I understand the term fishfinder is a tad misleading...I know Norman (and prob others) use it as an aid for drifting the wrecks/marks IE the feedback on the screen lets you know whether you're on top of it or whether you've missed it completely LOL

and don't you have to have a licence for radios too?

aye fishfinders are more about determining whats underneath you, what the ground is like - rough/hard/kelpy/sand etc and spotting the lumps of wrecks, with practice and adjustment you can get to the point of finding fish, but cod being bottom feeders are nigh on impossible for a finder to pick up with any accuracy IMHO

as for licences all free these days, do it on line at Maritime Radio | Ofcom

apply on line and get a lifetimes licence for nowt, if you want a peper licence like the old ones you can still get one, but is 20 quid a year

ask any of the lads on here...it can be as frustrating as shore fishing at times though...look at my trip last week...7 hours for one 2lb Codling

Still - when the weather is right you don't always care ...me barnet has started turning from red to brown now
