  • PROVOCATIVE QUOTES !

Many times over the years,, we’ve had discussions on the site about declining fish stocks and much of the blame has been levelled at the fishing industry and both the British Governments and EU policies.
There have also been topics raised, which questioned the role of the pleasure angler in all of that and I think we all need to look at our practices.

From the outcome of previous discussions, I doubt if there’d be many on the site who would disagree with the issue of the taking of undersized fish, for example.

However, being in the role that I am, I’ve got to consider very carefully not only WHAT is said on the site, but also HOW it is said.

It’s not just the members who read the posts. I know that there are several organisations who regularly read what is being posted, looking for “provocative quotations” to take to the press. I’m sure you’ll agree that WE don’t want to provide them with ANY ammunition which could lead to any action taken against our sport.

I certainly have NO problems with having discussions about such things on the site (we’ve had them many times in the past). The only thing I ask is that everybody THINKS FIRST about what they are actually posting and consider who WILL be reading it.

T.C I think I/we know were you are comming from! ... the only question I have to ask is \'\'are we doing anything wrong??.. Im not trying to justify some young kid landing 20 odd or so macys at the end of S.Shields and dumping them for the sea gulls, or what ever. but how many fish are landed by trawlers ,that end up as some sort of garden fertiliser??,,, Im sure theres a lot more tonnes of unwanted fish that/ are ground down into some sort of fertiliser,, or / are just dummped because of EEC quotas that don\'t allow them to land.. them . than the hole lot of N.E.S.A could catch in 10 years,...I know we should\'nt take the pi55 if its easy fishing but who IS.. not us . how many fish can you catch on a spinner/ or even feathers ?? against a trawlers net the size of S.T James Park?? sorry a half pi55ed rant over...but I hope YOU know were Im comming from....

Tich, the answer to your question \"are we doing anything wrong?\" is simple.......it depends on who\'s reading what has been written and what they do with that information.
The \"information\" may be accurate, or it may be totally inaccurate - that doesn\'t matter to those who wish to gather as much negative publicity for the sport of fishing as they can. Hence my request think before you hit the \"New Topic\" or \"Post Reply\" buttons.

I know were T.C is comming from, and I think he has a good point to make,, any anti-blood sport people looking in could use the information we pass onto each other against us in the future,,\'\' wor kid\'\' oftain looks in on this site to see what Im upto fishing wise and he lives in New Zealand, and all this information is just a mear click away to the whole world, but again what are we doing wrong ? we are a bunch of lads & lasses who have a common interest Fishing . Do we have to take this site \'\'underground\'\' to protect our rite to pass on info about fishing areas and what we catch I think not.. Im sure I hav\'nt seen a site called North East badger baiting.. But I bet somewere in the world there is one,, AllIm trying to put over(probably not very well ) Is that we ar\'nt breaking any laws,, but I can understand we have to be a little cautious on/ how we pass over this info,, not to over gloryfie the catches we make (I think) Im not to clever this morning ,, In desperate need of an asprin or3 , a cup of coffee (no milk in the fridge ) and 1/2 a doz fags to get the old grey matter working again .. there again the pub opens in an hours time ,I might just be up for a hairy dog!! Cheers Im Off for a Quick pint,or 2 Tich see Im pirking up allready...

\"Freedom\" of speach is a myth, Gary.

There are always consequences to whatever anybody says.

The only difference on the \'net is that the person who makes the statement isn\'t the one who\'s held accountable.......it\'s those who
            A. own the site (Elton)
            B. are resonsible for the site (me)

I wouldn\'t be doing my job if I didn\'t ask that you remember that and to exercise a little thought before posting.

T C I can hear what you are saying (sorry for the wording ) but I can not see why a legitimate pastime that is the most popular sport,, even more than football is,,is causing some concern I/we + 4 1/2 million other anglers enjoy our weekends fishing or what ever time we do it.. It\'s not as if they could ban it! why? because if the government did they would have to ban ALL fishing be it rod & line/ sein nets/ drift nets/ gill nets or any other way of catching fish... then what would happen! could they then stop butchers from selling meat... Im sure If I was a fish I would want to be caught by an angler and killed quickley, rather than lying in some trawlers hold gasping my life away for several hours or so,,, then again am I just loosing the plot?? I dont want to be contrevertial (spelling) but each to there own.... I never take home anything I wont eat or use for bait,,, It all goes back into the sea alive. even when I do take fish I always fillet them on the beach or were ever and chuck the entrails back into the sea ,hopefully keeping the ecology happy, you take something out and with a little luck you put it back,, fish guts feed the small white bait/ crabs that feed the small flatties that feed the cod that feed,,, well you know the rest
