    Hi Ritchie,
Looks like there may be a demand on that sort of boat this year, i have been speaking to the likes of southern motor boats ( where i bought sasha ), dickies and essex boatyards, they all tell me that when they get this style of boat, thier not staying for sale very long, also as the weather improves so does the interest, i have also mentioned the diesel versus petrol to them, as a rule of thumb they reckon that boats to be towed and less than 20 feet in length tend to opt for outboards, bigger than that its diesel inboard, however they say its to early to see what trend may follow with the future increase in red diesel against outboard petrol engines....inboard petrol engined boats like the well built bayliner trophys, will probally level out with diesel equivelents, depends much on if your marina supplies petrol............suppose time will tell

forgot to say Ritchie, the problem with doing up an old boat, is that you expect it to perform the same as a new one, and the cost of all the bits is so bloody expensive, you did well to recoup your outlay. i remember when i put the new diesel engine in my wilson flyer years ago i just got my money back, however if you include all the time and hassle it takes you you loose a fortune...never again on an old boat, however if i can get the arvor with the knackered engine then thats a different matter...newish boat brand new engine swop over, like everything it depends on cost, time and will it financially be worth it in the long time....................all these options are giving me a bloody headache now, i only want to go out fishing and catch more fish than Norman and Bert......I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY !!!

seen a few of them on the net Mark, not sure if you can stand up in the cabin, was going to have a word with David @ royal quays next week, since he makes them ( well amble boat company ), other boats i would fancy are striker 20 or better still a hellraiser 223 both made by o sullivans marine, you dont see many 20's and the hellraisers i cant afford, bloody goal posts are moving further apart by the day haa haa

good solid boats though, i went to factory a few years a go and seem them being made, they are more of a commercial quality boat, the finish is nowhere as good as the the likes as Slinkey

If it`s a trail boat bob then yes outboard (just makes it that bit easier for the theives to take it) but if its a long stayer in marina then still go for deisel, inboard, shaft. The red deisel will not affect really for a couple of years yet and even then drop for drop even at same taxation deisel goes a lot further ................

ps I know Nov is the Tax day for red but not if you`ve already bought and stored it or if you just want to warm the cabin, and no-one can tell by sample unlike cars if you`ve paid tax on it cos its the same stuff. eventually there`ll be a way maybe you have to keep a receipt (but I dont get out much these days so the 5 litres I pay tax on and keep the receipt for will probably last me 10 years)

good luck mate, interesting and informative thread.

Seriously, I think I`d still go deisel (same as is) if I were starting a clean sheet right now for same kind of fishing. However, if I were to trail it around the country then I think the extra oomph of speed on unknown waters would be preferred to against the base cost of running.
But one things for sure i`d have the BEST model outboard on the market - for safety or maybe smaller twins which take all the safety (breakdown) problems away - other than running out of fuel that is LOL

Don't talk to us about legs Norman lol, just been giving Bert a hand putting Shady's back on. Not the easiest of tasks lol.

Best of talking to Bert about the Arvor Bob, I'm pretty sure the owner is selling though.
                  Cheers, Keith.

is that keith ex of shadow?

Aye Keith legs .... aaaaarg you just got to look in any boatyard and 50% of boats with legs dont have them on cos they`re away being serviced or repaired. I used to have an Icelander with inboard 2ltr BMW on a leg and it was crap, forever changing the joint and bellows, also seized up main bearings once at sea and came back on a 4hp outboard.

                    hows shady coming along?

To be honest Norman, probally one of the only things thats keeping my mind still open to diesel is your boat, its been incredably reliable and depreciation is minimal, i realise that thats mainly down to how you look after her and have her regulary serviced, she looks as good as the day you got her.....unlike us !!! haa haa, seriously though having been out with you many times, and on an epic journey i know what she's capable of, hence thats what i want, the only deciding factor is as per the topic, petrol or diesel

It's definately a diesel Bob, not sure what year Arvor changed from Nanni to VW but I'm pretty sure it's a VW.
                            Cheers, Keith.
