  • Baits and lures.

Was talking to a lad at work today who is going out on Maggie may in the near future. We got on about methods. This lad is using two hooks to fish with. Long flowing trace on the bottom. Baited with crab. Top hook runny and squid.
I was asking about jiggers and shads.
Mainly a summer lure/bait and also hockeyes etc.
Is it because there is more fish about in the Summer.
I,d be gutted if i used good bait to catch whity off a boat at £25 for a day.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

It's good to see someone using a two hook flowing trace. In my experience it always outfishes a three hook hockai or daylight rig. I would always recommend that some kind of attractor is used on the bottom flowing trace, 3 to 6 inches from the hook. It could be a blade spoon, fluo light, or even simple beads. I am convinced it makes a difference. I have found over the years that leadheads and shads can pick up better quality fish at the start of the year. Your friend can experiment by fitting a shad to the upper hook every other drop to see if it picks up fish. If he ends up fishing a reef or structure, the shad might even pick up a bonus pollack.
