The Explorer 2000 is the same boat as my Explorer Elite i think, i have a 4hp Mercury on and it pushes it along nicely,
The best advice is to buy a good one that you know will start, i looked at some rubbish for daft money before buying brand new, my Explorers up for sale and i'm taking the Mercury off it, it might be up for sale but wont be cheap as its only 3 months old and run for 10 mins...

IF you look for a fourstroke you can either get the 4,5 or 6hp longshaft motor as they are all the same weight. the best one of course would be the 6hp but they are like rocking horse poo
Chris went through trying to find one second hand but they are very hard to find so he bought a new one.
Make sure you get a long shaft as a short shaft although on an adjustable bracket they make the engine sit too close to the water to work effectively and risk getting swamped and it will always be when you need it most that it gets used.
