  • Big or small

When fishing the wrecks i always feel like i am going to catch more if the wreck is big, now this is not always the case and large wrecks seem to hold less cod but more ling and pollack.

How about the rest of you, do you get better catches from large wrecks?

    Richy,

We tend to stick to the smaller wrecks unless the drift is a little on the quick side. We seem to have more success on the smaller ones when fishing for Cod. In fact, our finding probably match yours exactly!!

Not sure if there is a science to this though.

    Jeff.

Cod are quite a lazy fish and feed on slowish swimming fish (you dont often see small pollack or collies in a cods stomach) so cod like smaller brocken up bits of wreck as the tide is broken into smaller eddies etc and has more places for them to hunt out of the tide. Large wrecks tend to be in big pieces and the cod seem to live in the wreck rather than around it. On large wrecks sometimes the cod can be as much as 100mts down tide from it as the eddy created by the tide can sit this far off it and eddy on small lumps will be closer due to less resistance against the tide.
give a man a fish and feed him for a day - teach the man to fish and feed him for life!!!!
