  • A second boat

I have been thinking about the money i shell out to fish other parts of the UK, such as £220 a day for skate fishing, £200 a day tope fishing, £80 a day bass fishing etc and decided it will be a good idea to look at purchasing a second boat, something small i.e 15ft that i can tow around the uk and launch.

So the search begins for a small cheap boat i can tow, nowt flash as long as its safe and has a good engine.

That will be around 4k+ for anything decent especially a fuel economical engine.

Then add insurance servicing etc is it really going to be worth it?

there should be something like a house swap but for boats, so when you travel to say scotland you go out with someone up there and then you take them out down here. Mind it would take a canny bit of organising.

I agree, i be happy to swap a weekend out the Tyne wrecking for a day tope fishing in Luce bay or pollack fishing at port Patrick.

                      Richie

probably not what you want to hear but having a boat to tow around will be far more expensive than booking charters etc. When I towed my boat around which I have done for the last few years it has at times cost a lot of money for no fishing. I have towed to the other end of the country and have then been blown off. If I had of been on a charter boat I would of not had to pay for the boat and trailer storage and at some places this can be expensive, also I could of gone in a car that would do good mpg but taking the boat has cost double as a lot of slips need a 4x4. And been on a charter if blown off there is no cost.

I bought my last boat as one which I could overnight on and also trailer around so I now have best of both worlds. My mate has just purchased a Marlin 6 which he keeps in a marina but then takes it away for weeks holidays as well. he used to have 2 boats but the cost was getting silly so he cut his losses and had one boat to do the lot.

I would advise you do some phoning around and see what the slipways and trailer storage costs are before you go into this, also what storage facilities are around if you have to launch and retrieve each day, this has always been a bigger cost than anticipated and in a small boat you may not get out when the charters do.
