Hi Dave, the pics you have seen of my boat in BFM show her as \"Fifty Fifty\". She now sports bright new livery as \"Secret Star\", 50/50 was a bit of a mouth full for call up on VHF, in any case, if you are a Starfish mark, the name has to be \"----- Star\" or \"Star----\" dont it.

Performance is not mind blowing, as she stands with a Perkins 135 normaly aspirated, she has a top speed of 14 knots, and a cumfortable cruse at 2000rpm of 9/10ks. Fuel consumption veries from a thimble full at estuary/river speed on the hunt for bass, to 7lits ph at an easey cruise, this goes up to 9/10 lits ph if I start pushing the reves closer to her max 2600 rpm and the 14 knots.

The beauty of the Starfish 8 is that she can cop with power upto 260hp (Yanmar), Gives her a top speed of 23ks, this was in my mind when I bought her last year, but, as a bit of an old f**t theses days, I quite like potering at 10ks. I still get to where I want to go in about an hour or so.

The other side of the coine is the EU, if they have their way, in 2006 we will be paying pump prices for pink deiesel ! ! ! That makes the 6-10gph of a 240 a bit daunting.

The other good point in favour of Starfish 8, she is the \'little boat that thinks she is a big boat\', taking on seas that would make many craft cring. So speed is not quit as important, get caught out, and she will plough back home, a feature apreciated by comercial fishermen, making the 8 very popular for inshore single handed netters and potters.

So, now I have had time to look at the package, she does actualy fit quite well. Speed is offset against time spent on launch and retrive, economy is also playing an increasing roll. Obviously marina fees are high, but, as I dont smoke, I put my boat down as my vice, she costs me £3000 pounds per year inc., fuel, plays a roll as a floating retreat and has considerable value if ever required? 40 fags a day costs £2912 per year, residual value \'0\'. Sorry chaps, not preaching it is just the way I see it. Notice I did not come the \'Holyer than Though\', and say I dont drink, hic ! ! !

I am assuming that you are all NE bassed? Interesting, as I have association in that part of the world, my partner Hazel, is a \'Monkey Hanger\'. She has a large family in Hartlypool, and we do visit occasionaly. Even considered mooving there a couple of years ago, it may still happen? Marina fees are half what they are here! CJS

Sorry Dave, you have got my family history, all from the simple question, how does she perform!

          Hi Cliff ,

I done a report on mine at

          http://fishing_boats.tripod.com/

It is a link from this site ( Save me doing it all again on here lol ) . Your boat really looked the part in BFM and very classy as well . Your article on the garmin 182c was good as well , I am well impressed with mine .

We are all based in the N/E ( well our boats anyway ) and sail out of Blyth , Tyne , Wear and Hartlepool mainly with some lads in Yorkshire and Scotland and further afield .

Good to have another boatie on the forum , have a good time .

NE? not to well up on the fishing in the area. What sort of fishing, fish and methods. for instance, its all shallow water fishing of the Suffolk and Esses coast, (10 to 70ft on aveage) therefor we tend to uptide and boat cast. Most fishing is at anchore, with worm or squid bait, peeleer crab in season, but frankly, squid is taking most of my fish. I only buy worms (rag) inthe summer when I\'m in the river looking for bass. Cliff,
We do either hard ground, or when the season takes off wreck fishing. A good variety of fish to be found but eveyones main target is Cod or Ling. Had a good number of double figure fish last season. Ling usually falls to mackeral baits as do cod , but plenty cod to be caught on unbaited pirks or lures.

Looking forward this season to trying out several leadheads. Rich done well last couple of seasons with them.
