Everytime the sun comes out i get that urge to do something down the boat even if i have nothing really to do.

So when is everyone planning on starting this year?

As am sure many will know i hate fishing in the cold and not a fan of rough ground so i plan my first trip out on the 12th of April 2014 to wet a line thou i will be out from mid March getting used to the new boat and marking wrecks again.

March can be very hit & miss as the Cod go through their spawning cycle but I would always take the opportunity to wet a line if the wind & weather allows it. It's just great to be out at any time of the year even if the fish aint biting but once we're into April / May it's fill ya boots time.

For me it's the week after Easter...

Will be in Cpe Town the 3 weeks before and hopefully build up some muscles for the summer by doing some tuna fishing down there...

      Boat in the driveway...cleaning...tidying...painting...re-wiring...

Even got a new outboard on (ETEC)

      Excited!

I was out in shorts and T-shirt during March a couple of years ago so it can be warm then. Fishing was OK too and fills the time nicely before the wrecks start to fish. So, as soon as the sea (and wife ) allows, I’ll be out.

            Calibration

I guess calibration and snagging is needed to make sure your ready for the season. I have been reading how to distinguish and read a fish finder ... Also how to read a seabed scan..... It's seems that experiance and knowledge is vital

Similar to many other replies engine is serviced and repaired, hull poilshed. Just need to do a bit internal cleaning and polish topsides then sea trial this Sunday ready for whenever the weather permits.

Really excited and looking forward to it, last year was our learning season but this year we are much better prepared.
A bad day's fishing is better than a good day at work

I'll probably give the boat a run out in the next few days just to run the engine and charge up the battery, whilst I'm out I'll probably wet a line after that I'll be out as often as the weather is decent until the fish start showing and I can plan a proper attack

Working down the boat today fitting a carbon dioxide reader for the cabin and a gas supply for the cooker, it was like a July day, no wind, sun blasting down and birds diving in the marina getting small fish. I had planned to start in 5 weeks time but that may be reduced to 3 weeks time if it stays like this

P.S going to move my boat from pontoon B, never seen so much seagull crap in my life...bass rock looks clean compared to the boats at the top of pontoon B...be glad when they go off to make little "mine, mine, mines" in a few weeks time and leave the marina.
