The way I look at it, a winch would be ok in normal use, but what happens when the anchor is properly stuck and will not break free. You're going to have to lean over the front of the bow, and cut the rope. Me, I'd rather use the Alderny ring method anytime, and from a safety point, not have to leave the safety of the cockpit as I mostly fish alone.
