Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read a comment ... Just a couple questions ... The whole wrecking / uptiding thing ..... Is there any known reasons why uptiding seems to overtake wrecking in winter months as prefered fishing method ? When uptiding is it worth using long tail weights which seem to be hard to get hold of ..... Or breakaways just as practical ? Not uptided but want to try if it's the only way..... Going stir crazy anyone know of any charters going out Sunday or tues wed fri..... Cbuk isn't updated Cheers best wishes

What they are calling " uptiding " inshore off the likes of souter and marsden is not what is meant by uptiding. " True " uptiding is usually done over a more foregiving sea bed, Sandbanks and gravell beds.
The bait is cast well uptide using a griplead, and a lot of line is let out creating a big bow in the line. When a fish takes, it usually pulls the grip out and the loop dissapears when the fish takes up the slack.
If you cast 40yds uptide off souter, the wherry, or camels, you will have to use a rotten bottom,
regarding the wrecking / uptiding, IMO, the wrecks are for late spring,to late autumn. and the inshore winter shots are where the fish do their spawning, and the warmer the water the better, hence this years good catches. only my views

When we uptide off Seaham, we use rotten bottoms on a grip lead, as Topfly says the ground is rough close in, and the chances of getting snagged are high..

Thanks guys ..... Rottern bottom rigs ... Will try looking them up ...grip leads ? Would that a standard grip lead ? Sorry don't want to turn up with wrong gear .... Cheers ..,,,Comment

Thanks again ..., from looking at rottern bottom it seems to be a rig with a weak link to allow rig to be rescued along with fish if lead is snagged ... Is it worth trying to make ( happy to try but question my ability) or just to buy .... Once again thanks .....Comment

Just use these rig clips, upside down, hang your lead on the hook and a short legth of 12lb line tied onto your lead and onto the the eye of the rig clip

Wreck fishing comes into its own once the water clears and fish can see lures, muppets, jiggers, hokais and shads as they are drifted across. Until then, a bait locked on to the sea bed and sending out a scent trail for the fish to find, works better in the murky water.Comment
