  • Uptiding Combo

Just received this by email. Please add any suggestions to this thread:

    Hi

I considering going boat uptiding this winter off the North East coast.

Could you recommend a good quality rod/ reel combo thats fit for this purpose.

    Many thanks

    Peter

I guess it depends on budget but I would consider the following.

    Reels

ABU7000 type reel, ( you can pick up the lever drag for £50)
    Penn 525 / 535
    SLOSH 20 / 30

I've used each of these and they are all as good as each other.

    Rods-:

Best Quality - Zziplex Sea Raider II / Penn Waveblaster Uptide / Greys Uptider

    Mid Range - Abu Conolon

    Low Range - Ron Thompson

You could mix and match reels from this combination and all will be OK.

I started off with an old sawn down Beachcaster, (conoflex) and it did the job no problem. Ideal length is 9ft 6ins to 10ft.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Jeff.
