Hello people - I am new to this website and am a returning fisherman after some 20 yrs absence - I forgot what I was missing....

The issue I would like to bring to the attention of the members is the littering problem amongst the fishing fraternity.

I recently fished off Blyth pier and the amount of litter/used tackle/alcohol 'empties' was alarming. Again today I was on Sarahjfk and I was staggered at the amount of litter thrown over the side during the trip. I could not believe grown men could act in such away - and yes to some, it might only be litter - but I was truly ashamed. No I did not challenge the issue onboard today - maybe I was not looking to be confrontational.

Thought I would bring this to the attention of the forum for your views and hopefully to maybe prick the moral conscience of any reader who may be guilty of littering

    I enjoy the website

    Stay safe

welcome aboard Steve , many other members including myself have posted similar threads ,I've lost count of the times I've taken other peoples rubbish from a mark , it's a real problem that will result in some places being closed to fishing ,piers for instance are a prime target for councils to ban fishing and realistically who can blame them if they do !!
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

      Welcome to NESA mate.
same old story mate,I say it everytime this subject crops up
"dont just blame the occasional summer anglers for the mess it happens all year round"
No idea why people are so ignorant that they cant take there rubbish home, granted some stuff gets blown away as that is the nature of the venues we fish.
Cant comment on the JFK however you would think the Charter Boat skippers would at least say something about the rubbish getting thrown over the side
      Cheers Alan...

Got to agree with you Alan,

The rubbish on the piers is an ongoing thing that can not be stopped..you can not educate the brain dead...just helped by careing anglers picking up whats around them.

As regards the sarahjfk I am amazed the skipper does not have a rubbish bag. The last two charter boats I have been out on had rubbish bins and a request by the skipper that they be used. one skipper got very uptite about a punter who ignored this. I am amazed the sarahjfk skiper allows this. I dont know if he reads this forum but I for one will email him a link to this thread.

Steve ...you never mentioned what you caught? ...apart from three placcy bags.

        Cheers
        Dave

Whole heartedly agree I cant amagine how much crap there must be floating around. We cant do much about the amount of "official waste" being dumped but us anglers should lead by example and take the rubbish home. I know that this has been a long time problem but we all do need to continue the fight otherwise the only thing we will be catching, is a couple of beer cans, a half eaten pork pie and a placky bag!

i was on the sarahjfk that day with vamp seen some things been thrown away. If there was a rubbish bag that would have helped, But i seen Crew throw litter so if the crew will do it then others will follow. personaly i think getting the undersized fish back into the water is bigger problem. Some people did that so well done
