Well guys checked out the boats for wreck fishing and it was hard to find one. The main harbour had a stall advertising 3 hour sessions on a couple of boats one was called Unity and i forget the other.
Made enquiries and it was apparant the trips were for tourists to try out the sport.Mainly Maccy bashing. You could hire a rod for a fiver on the boat and it was ten quid a trip.I thought this was very reasonable.
Got pally with one of the skippers called Alan. Smashing bloke who was when you think about it just making a living by targetting tourists. Twelve to a boat and with the hiring of gear was,nt a bad turn over.
On Thursday i decided to go out and try for cod in between macky getting pulled up. Alan didnt expect nowt with the high tides and SW wind. He was good enough to try a couple of marks we hit the maccy and the novices were loving it. I caught a couple of maccy on a red pirk i had bought by false hooking them.I then put on some red artificial squid to get past the macky also with the pirk on.
After a couple of hours i hit something really heavy. Yes it was a cod of about 4lb and in the current it felt bigger. Got the fish up and it looked cracking. Next drop i caught two at the same time on the red squids both about 2 1/2 pound. I also caught a small ling and cod of about a pound (both released).
All in all a really good enjoyable trip. And i was not seasick (forgot to take my tablets and locked out of the caravan).
PS i understand if this is put in catch reports).

N1 Mick, what was the reaction of the holiday anglers? Did any of them fancy a crack?

      Holiday anglers.

Most of the people did,nt have a clue. But i suppose i would be the same just starting something new.
Everyone (except one lad who was seasick) really enjoyed themselves.
There was loads of crossed lines but Alan was spot on sorting them out. I fished at the back of the boat trying my hardest to keep out of the way.
I remember an article on the forum a while back where someone said that the short trips were a good taster for newbies rather that an all day job. I also think its a good idea. 3 hours is more than ample as we only went out a couple of mile.
I could have went out today from 10 am to 2 pm. But the missus was all ready fed up so i relented. Saw the boat out this morning and again only a small distance. Think he could only go 3 mile max.

          Mick,

Its a brave man who starts fishing a jigger on a three hour tourist trip

Well done on catching in those conditions.

The skipper must have the heart of a driving instructor to put up with that every day.

          Cheers
          Dave

Did Andy Winter not bait fish off the Shields Ferry?

rumour has it that "the" joke was actually based on a true story of Andy ....... the one where he helped a young girl stow away on a ship bound for America by hiding her in a lifeboat and bringing supplies every day, in exchange of course for her favours.
The girl only found out when the captain checked the lifeboats 12 days into the trip that she was actually on the sheilds ferry and Andy wasn`t a sailor but a cyclist crossing the river each day.
