Well guys checked out the boats for wreck fishing and it was hard to find one. The main harbour had a stall advertising 3 hour sessions on a couple of boats one was called Unity and i forget the other.
Made enquiries and it was apparant the trips were for tourists to try out the sport.Mainly Maccy bashing. You could hire a rod for a fiver on the boat and it was ten quid a trip.I thought this was very reasonable.
Got pally with one of the skippers called Alan. Smashing bloke who was when you think about it just making a living by targetting tourists. Twelve to a boat and with the hiring of gear was,nt a bad turn over.
On Thursday i decided to go out and try for cod in between macky getting pulled up. Alan didnt expect nowt with the high tides and SW wind. He was good enough to try a couple of marks we hit the maccy and the novices were loving it. I caught a couple of maccy on a red pirk i had bought by false hooking them.I then put on some red artificial squid to get past the macky also with the pirk on.
After a couple of hours i hit something really heavy. Yes it was a cod of about 4lb and in the current it felt bigger. Got the fish up and it looked cracking. Next drop i caught two at the same time on the red squids both about 2 1/2 pound. I also caught a small ling and cod of about a pound (both released).
All in all a really good enjoyable trip. And i was not seasick (forgot to take my tablets and locked out of the caravan).
PS i understand if this is put in catch reports).
Mick.
