The pleasure and the pain ......(of boating) well, we all know the pleasure thats quite simple it`s this;-
However the other side , sometimes the pain of it all .........
I recall DaveM mentioning once about and endless list of costs associated with owning your own boat ........ LOL too true.
In this case at`s all turned out well but could have been a lot worse ....
An explanation:-
On returning to marina last weekend (see Steves report)

we had a 15 minute or so wait to enter the lock whilst a couple of other boats exited, as the lights changed color and I put Slinky Kate into gear ... almost nothing happened ... which is unusual there is usually the sudden lurch forward as the prop kicks in and water pours out astern ...
Keeping it to myself for a moment I increased revs a little to find that we were hardly moving. On investigation of the stern water there was lots of action but not a lot of forward movement (although enough to navigate) I tried forward and reverse gear a few times in case I`d picked up something but no change, all revs no speed.
Anyway this was not the time to mess on so we proceeded slowly into the lock and progressivly out the other end into marina basin, where I tried a few high rev forward and reverse passes ----- still the same so made the decision then not to cause any more damage and have boat lifted out so as I could sort properly.
Didn`t get a chance till late on Thursday to get to Marina for a lift out so ................
This was the result ........ A BLACK PLASTIC BAG !!!!! Wrapped around Prop
Luckily, Although I`d came armed with Stanly Knife, Hacksaw, Pliers, Wire Cutters, Tin snips and any other cutting implememt you can think of It simply came loose in my hand and was quite easily removed.
It seems it had located itself like a parachute behind the prop stopping any water and therefore flow being pulled through the prop.
The Culprit :-
Well all is well now and shes back in the water where she belongs awaiting another expedition this weekend, no harm done, just a nudge to the finances yet again .......

, pity you couldn't hand the bill over to the person that discarded the bin liner. Still, it could of been worse and at least you've got her sorted
