    I have just bought myself my first boat with an outboard it is a yamaha 40hp 96/97 model .I took it out on the tyne yesterday everything working as it should pumping plenty of water but when I give it more than half throttle a buzzer sounds in the control box .when I throttle off it stops after a minute or so . can anyone help as I know nothing about them what is the buzzer for ? .the engine is under warrenty so I can take it back

        Great repy and link ell, and very informative I always thought the tell-tale jet was a sure sign that everything was fine with the outboard pump and impeller, you live and learn.

          cheers the engine is going back tomorrow just didnt want to take it back for them to say that it was normal like I said dont know much about them but Iam going to get a manual and save some money
