  • Starting to wish I had sold it!!!

The last few months has been a nightmare in terms of work and hobbies.

It all started when I got a final demand from yours and my best friend the taxman. Not a problem as the summer is when I earn my money to see me thru the year.

And then it started to rain.

    And rain.

    And rain.

I could go on for pages quoting the daily forcast for nearly six weeks, but you know what I mean.

So money is geting tight at a time of year it normally is the exact opposite. One thought that springs to mind is sell the boat...get the taxman off my back...but that would be like cutting an arm off.

So I hang onto the boat...the weather picks up and the money comes in

But then I start sorting the boat and in the last two weeks I have had to insure..renew the launching fees...buy a plotter ( that was a little personal treat) and renew the flare pack.

What is it with flare packs...best price I can find is around 75 quid...but I have the old ones. They have a best before date of may 2007.

Surely this should be a "sink before" date with a money back gaurantee..if you dont sink they should auto ignite so you at least get your moneys worth

I cant wait for bonfire night as I am going to set the old ones off just to see what I got for my money.

Any links to cheep flare suppliers would be appreciated (and I dont mean cheep flares ..i mean good flares cheep)

    Cheers

Dave....Please don't set off your flares on bonfire night mate as you may inadvertantly cause someone to see them and think that someone is in distress and cause the Coastguard and lifeboats to be launched.
I can tell you that as the pyro's go beyond the expiry dates, the colour of the flare can change.
We sometimes set off our old flares when we are on exercise to get practise in for the lads who may not have used them (We 'HAVE' to contact Humber to notify them what we are doing as they will get numerous reports). The white 'para's ' often burn an orangey colour after they have gone beyond expiry and people can therefore mistake them for RED which is obviously one of the international signals that someone is in distress.
If you notify your local Coastguard station that you have them they will have a suitable box to transport them to their sector office where they store them in an armoured container ready for collection and disposal by bomb disposal.
"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

      Thanks red,

I was wondering how to get rid of them. So all i need to do is drop them through the letter box of a coastgaurd station.

I suppose i could take the hand held flares to a football match like they do on telly.

Since i live 35 miles inshore it would be unlikely that they would send out a liftboat in response to my distress flare, but point noted and proper disposal will be arranged.

      Cheers
