The RNLI should be centrally funded from the vast pot of cash we shell out in taxes and other scams. The politician that moans about belt tightening, priorities and budgets can go kiss my mackem arse when they sit back and agree to HUGE amounts of money being spent on this Iraq type ****. These vampires feed on our good nature ... \"Oh the public will look after the RNLI, RSPCA etc. the mugs). Fight for a political system were these fundementals are looked after as a matter of course, and placed in the hands of trustworthy people.

The getting paid for it issue! I don\'t believe for one second it would have an adverse affect on the type of person wishing to be a Lifeboat Crew member. far from it!

\"The RNLI should be centrally funded from the vast pot of cash we shell out in taxes.....\"

Ell, I can\'t believe that you\'re actually WANTING Governmental control over something .....because that is what you ARE suggesting, isn\'t it? - we pay our taxes to the Government and THEY decide WHERE to spend it.
You are suggesting that those who currently oversee the administration of the RNLI (those who know what is needed and where), should hand over the purse strings to the Government, who\'s objective will be to CUT funding year on year, until we have a crippled RNLI service ?????? (or as they would call it, \"a rationalised resource\" )

\" Fight for a political system were these fundementals are looked after as a matter of course, and placed in the hands of trustworthy people.\"

We live in the REAL world, Ell.
        THAT won\'t happen !

Aye Tony, we do live in the real world and experience suggests the current method of funding is preferable. I am arguing (just arguing) the case for us having CONTROL over OUR METHOD of GOVERNMENT. From that many good things would follow. Are you suggesting living in the real world demands we put up with this crap for ever and a day. History has shown that things do change when people have finally had enough.

Alan F. - I don\'t know if it applies to ALL stations, but I think most have one full-time, paid employee - the station mechanic.

It would be nice to get the views of some RNLI crew members (if there are any reading this, please feel free to comment).
I remember chatting to one of the lads (RNLI) at the open day a good few years ago and he said its in there best interest to have a fulltime \"so and so\" on site,i could\'nt remember who he said though, thanks Tony.
