  • Boat rod

Hi guys I am considering a maxximus rod after these have been recommended... My question is do u need an uptiding rod if uptiding or would a standard rod do the same job .... Also when fishing a wreck using a pirk is it advisable to rig with a set of muppets or to use on its own ??? More hooks more chances to snag ??? Also where is the best place to check sea forecast ..... Hope to be out Friday this week

If using a pirk then it will not harm to try a muppet over the hook i somtimes use a piece of mackerel on the hook for added sent just remember most pirks have treble hooks on and catch very easy but will also fish with hook bare we have had some good ling fishing a mackerel flapper on a 5ft rig over the wrecks

I fish a pirk with muppets above until the mackerel stop you getting to the bottom.
            Cheers, Keith.

U can buy a canny uptiding rod from Boyes. I go a Fladen for 20 quid. Its like a shorter beachaster but can cast 10 oz from boat.
Using jigs is hard work when wrecking as u can snag easy. Saying that u can get good fish if u can live with losing a few.
I use shads or baited red muppets on a single weight.
