hi everyone, just took on my first boat project and need a bit advice, i know there is a unit in coopies lane morpeth that sells usual boat needs but what other places if any can i turn to for parts and advice, i was pointed to a place opposite crosslings on coast road but has now shut down, ive got a 16ft wood boat with cabin, ( dont know make) and am about to start rubbing down for painting, its just the simple things i need like a drain plug and advice on getting her ready for summer. any help would be welcome. cheers and happy new year to all.

that'll be storrar marine on the coast road, pretty sure they're not closed down, was in there early december (http://www.storrarmarine.co.uk/)

there's also trident marine, south shore road in gateshead, ( about 500yds further along from the tuxedo/HMS caliope) but be prepeared to pay double the price you'd pay anywhere else for bits

ebay is a pretty good source boaty bits, I buy most of the stainless stuff from a guy buy the name of 'stainless direct' on there. I bought a stainless drain pluf off ebay last year, under a fiver incl potage.

Storrar marine is definitely open, I was in today, also they have their January sale on, Must agree with Mark on the Ebay advice too, also there is a shop on John street Cullercoats, "Shipwreck Marine" (he used to be the chandlers by the North Shields Ferry landing) his shop seems to be an alladins cave of everything nautical, anyway roll on the spring/summer. (it,ll probably turn non stop Easterlys then.)

hi everyone, like i said this being my first boat/project i cant wait to "get out there" but there is a bit work to do on boat, all i can tell you is its 16ft wood built with cabin, ive stripped all electrics out of her to start fresh, im in process of rubbing down and painting ( weather permiting and its not ) havn't got outboard yet, that will be last on list i think, ive got her in blyth boat club compound. nice easy launch down concrete ramp into river. Norman you might remember me off old board, i fished with you couple of times many moons ago (i live few streets behind you) looking forward to banter and sound advice here, hopefully get to meet everyone soon.

Tommy, do you have a phone number for ship wreck marine? been down a few times but there's never anybody there.

Anyone got a hydraulic steering helm lying around?
                      Cheers, Keith.

Keith, the telephone number is 0191 2525550, and I must admit that it does seem to be one of those shops with odd hours....
