  • Winter boat fishing

Looking at the posts it seems like everyone has put the boats to bed for the winter or the page has frozen around early October!. Down in Sunny Seaham Harbour we have just started a winter league with 5 mile boundaries. {well it is winter!]
First comp was not too bad with a few fish showing between 3lb - 4lb. Some of the lads are getting out regular up and down the coast line with plenty of fish close in.
Get the boat out to the inshore marks and you could do a lot better than the shore. Keeping close in gets you home quick if the weather turns. Next Comp is Sunday 12th November fishing 0900 - 1400; Club members only. Will be giving the new Predator 160 some stick if the weather is reasonable.

You boat lads might just have a decent weekend this week. The forecast is looking canny. Good luck if you manage to get out.

        Results

        Hi Alan,
Happy New year to you. Forgot to let you know the results of the 17th December comp. Still suffering from the Presentation night the weekend before!! Results are on our website: www.seahamharbourboatclub.co.uk. Nick Richardson's 9lb 14oz cod was the HSF but the bags were very poor. We have a comp this weekend but the weather seems against us. We are getting half a dozen boats entering with another couple on the sidelines so things may get better if we get some decent weather for a change. Some good sport with big whiting and some cod to 6lb on the colliery beaches, especially during the evening / night tides with the flood fishing best. Strange thing is some small (around size) bass are showing regular, especially to ragworm and seem to be running with the bigger whiting. some of the boats getting out midweek days / early evening have had some reasonable bags with fish to 10 lb or so on mixed baits uptiding on the rough ground off Sunderland. Heard on the grapevine that shark fishing will be available from Whitby and Hartlepool this summer. It will be catch and release with tagging if all goes to plan. Heard @£80 per day at Whitby and @£60 at Hartlepool which I think includes gear hire but have no further info yet.
