  • Help needed Garmin GPSMAP 168 sounder

    Hiya Lads

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 168 GPS system with built in fishfinder for my fishing boat.

Trouble is i need a A/C pc cable to connect it to my PC and also a Map of the NE coastal area.

The unit has the basic outline of the coast but no other info like depth of water or bottom structure info.

Does anyone have the Cable for one of these and perhaps a Bluechart Map of the NE?

I will gladly slip someone say £100 to install the maps for me if they have the means to do so as i have been in touch with Garmin and can't get the cable unless from the US and THEY wont ship to europe???????

The Maps are £130 and the cable is around $60 from the US + shipping but as said they wont ship

Any help will be greatly appreciated

you could try storrars on the coast road. they can reprogram cartridges/plotters for you. Mapsource local chart, berwick to whitby ish, was about 80 quid when they did mine

you're existing power cable should have all the data leads there already, so would just need an rs232 connector soldering to the relevant pins wires.

the mapsource bluechart software is a bit tricky though, as you have to buy a different unlock code for each chart, but local charts are still under a 100 quid for the code. I've got the latest version of bluechart, but you still can't transfer toa plotter without the unlock codes for each area
