Aie mate was at Roker Pier last nite last light fished its t*ts off casting out just one wind of the reel and had 3 and 4s on at a time some sixes and sevens. Only took ten home though as i gave all them away to the chinese blokes who were there, and also threw a load back.

Was down Roker pier on Saturday had around 250 Makeral between the three of us, this was in the space of 2- 2 and a half hours , we filled a 25litre cool box full with fillets and also we had a few carry bags half full with whole fish. At the end of the night had around 300 fish between the 3 of us big dabs, a few flounders and stacks of herring also first light fished fairly poorly compared to the night tide only had 30 in the morning between the three of us. But the night tides are fishing best around the sunderland area, don't now what they are like at blyth but they are certainly well in. Going bass fishing somewhere instead of mackeral fishing leave the macky for a bit and get the rest of the winter baits in with the floats in september, when they go dead on the feathers.
What the hell are you going to do with 500 fillets? Even between 3 of you, thats over 150 fillets each.

      What a waste.

Dear me- take this off the net before anyone in authority see's it. It's neither wonder their trying to hit us with "LICENSES" when they read articles like this.

3-5 macky for freezer for eating and maybe another 10 fillets in the freezer for bait, that would be enough or maybe even to many for me. as a rule i dont target the macky for the simple reason to many people do, it gets boring and i would rather have a peaceful day out not looking at all the crap and listening to the foul language used by some of the so called anglers.

          cheers

when they are around in such numbers why does 'sport' dissapear out of the window??

sure knock out a string of daylites on a big rod and pull em in 4 5 or 6 at a time, why not just buy a fecking gill net, can't see much difference. a few more years of this and everyone will be bleating there's no mackeral left or blaming it on the commercials.

Perfect fuel to fan the governments flames over licensing

if they are there in such big numbers, get a 7 foot spinning rod, stick 3 to 5lb line on and 1 spinner. you'll have more fun tussling with a single mackeral for 5 mins on that gear than pulling in 20 in the same space of time using strings of lures. Sure, you're gonna loose loads, but you'll learn more about playing a fish than you'll ever learn by any other means. Who knows, come the winter when you hook the cod of a lifetime off the pier, you might have a better chance of playing it and landing it

Maybe I'm just the grumpy self opinionated tosser, thats stick his oar in, but it just looks like needless slaughter to me.

whats worse, is that reading of people and the fun they had pulling 100 plus fish in in a session, which is more than enough to keep em in bait for years, they'll want to go and do it again and again throughout the season.

at that rate in 3 days you'll have caught enough to eat mackeral, every day of the year, for a whole year.

Bring in licensing and quotas asap!!

telling ya peeps go mad for macky ,easiest unskilled to catch, and a know some of these youngins aint got room for freezing them all so where do they go.nieghbours ,friends ,not all like them so i just guess its to go down and catch fish and say i caught this amount ,it aint a comp lol.

tell ya what me pic of a couple of macky may been first pic shown on here this season, but tell ya what a was just over the moon with that as it was first this year, never been back down since to try for more yet,

rather be down the river scratching for flatties etc

                    If you are....

                    ...then so am I!!

Not at all Mark - I totally agree.

Would rather sit for an hour to catch one good size flattie than "compete" to catch 100 Mackerel for no real reason. Totally Pointless!!!

Ah.but they're for the cat,the next door neighbours cat, fishcakes, the bloke down the street likes them.My granny'll have a couple for her supper.I've heard them all before,AND THEY'RE STILL CRAP.
What's the point of killing 300 fish,if left alone,or returned could give you 300,000 fish in a few years.
Yeah if you're a pike man or freeze them for bait ok.But these guys have sense they know how many-ish they'll need and stop when they get there.to catch 100 and leave 50 on the pier,as has been done, then throw 25 away cos they're too heavy to carry home, and give 20 away, leaves 5 for you,why not take 5 in the first place.
                      Rant over.

Same crap every year on here about Mackerel, you get all ages, sex's and abilities on Blyth pier and probably every other pier in the country fishing for them, dont just blame the occasional summer angler "Macky Bashers " theres Top "so called" North East Anglers pulling them in 6 at a time and leaving sh#t everywhere, its times like this when I really would like to see a fishing Licence brought in.
The Mackerel I catch i freeze for the winter fishing or for eating and I could probably get what I need in one session god knows what they do with hundreds of them, probably end up in there wheelie bins or just dumped
                          Cheers Alan...
